VanDusen Botanical Gardens

Updated: Jan 6, 2018

The most Christmas lights we have ever seen in our lives!

The picture above is from a "cave" of purple lights so as you can imagine one of us was pretty happy about that. This was just part of the amazing lights that we discovered on a cold bright night in Vancouver. VanDusen Gardens are normally a botanical garden but for the Christmas holidays they set up the best Christmas lights display that we have ever seen.

The lights display is complimented by Santa and food trucks to make this a merry, bright and warm experience. We treated ourselves to a hotdog, hot chocolate and some yummy mini donuts for dinner which helped keep us super warm and happy while we explored the garden.

There were a number of different zones with the lights on the lake also changing in time to Christmas carols which was really cool. The first zone was filled with Gingerbread men and little houses like the ones below.

Next up was the flower zone with amazing lights set out like flowers in the garden beds. There were different types with some made from recycled water bottles. This was also home to the food trucks we visited and therefore one of our favourite places in the garden. It also held a river bed which was adorned with blue lights to make it look like it was still flowing.

These zones were followed by a maze, a lake walk and the cave and gazebo areas. We spent 2+ hours walking through them all and were wowed by each area. This has been one of our favourite outings in Vancouver so far and we highly, HIGHLY recommend a visit. It is easy to access by public transport and costs about $25 each to enter. We could haven been there for many more hours if we wanted to see all the lights and it is a great places to take children with the paths wide enough to get prams and strollers through comfortably.
