Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge

Having lived in North Vancouver for the best part of 7 weeks we decided we should probably visit one of the two suspension bridges and accompanying parks in the area. There were two options, Capilano Bridge and Lynn Canyon. We chose Lynn Canyon mostly because it was free. After a short bus ride we arrived at the park and walked to the bridge. It had snowed at lot during the week and all the snow was now turning to ice and melting on the path to the bridge.

It is reasonably stable looking and if it wasn't covered in ice Jess probably would have looked less terrified when we got on to it. Nervously walking along the slippery metal surface, gripping on for dear life, our fear was intensified when someone on the bridge decided it would be fun to jump up and down on it! Lets just say that this didn't go down well with everyone on the bridge and the person was swiftly stopped.

Apart from the bridge there is an extensive park to explore, but wearing the wrong footwear for the icy conditions we only explored a little. We ventured to a place called the 30 feet pool which was some huge rocks jutting out of the flowing stream. This was a very beautiful part of the park but to get there involved traversing some stairs. Most of the stairs were accompanied by large wooden handrails which were easy to use, the rest were surrounded by sharp rocks and large trees. Wearing the wrong footwear, as previously mentioned, meant that on one occasion Jess had to sit on her bottom and slide down the steps to prevent injury. This was observed by many other people in the park and caused a few laughs.

We finished off our park exploration with a nice hot cuppa at the café. This was an actual café with a full kitchen which is quite rare in Vancouver. It had a nice warm fire place which we sat in front of to warm up the parts of us which had touched the ice. We had also mistakenly not worn our gloves and the railing for the bridge was all made from metal which was very very cold and so the fire defrosted our hands as well.

On the walk home from our bus Brendan fulfilled one of his bucket list items. Although we didn't build the snowman he did get to have a picture besides a giant one. The smile in the picture below says it all.
