Captains Boil - freshest seafood ever!

We had just caught three types of public transport with our huge backpacks and settled into our new home when we decided to go and find some food. We realised we hadn't eaten a proper meal all day and were suffering from delayed muscle soreness from the previous days snowboarding clinic. We wandered up the street and found the nearby Kingsway street which is filled with restaurants and shops. There was a huge variety from pizza to Vietnamese and everything in between. We settled on a place called Captains Boil because the seafood in the window looked very fresh and it kind of looked like a fish and chip place from back home. When we entered we were met with a totally different concept. The tables were covered with paper table cloths and we were each given a plastic bib (pictured below) and some plastic gloves.

The waiter came and explained the menu to us - its a similar concept to Nandos where you select the seafood, then the sauce and then the chilli temperature. Being tired and sore and having some advice from our neighbouring table we elected to go for a no- spice level of heat. We ordered a Silver Plate which cam with 3 types of seafood, seafood fried rice and some corn on the cob. The seafood was shrimp (prawns), muscles and clams (what we would call oysters) and we selected the Captains Boil sauce flavour.

Once we had ordered we donned our sexy plastic bibs and chatted while they prepared our meal. It came to the table in big plastic bags. Each bag contained a separate seafood and the rice came out on a platter. The seafood was the whole creature covered in delicious sauce and you had to shell each one as you were going which is why there was plastic gloves and a bib, Its quite a messy process but the seafood was so fresh and it was actually quite fun. (The picture below is the aftermath)

After each eating our portions we were very satisfied that our hunger cravings had disappeared and headed back home for much needed sleep before work the next day. If you are ever in Vancouver we would HIGHLY encourage you to visit this place.
