Omni theatre 2.0

On a typical rainy Saturday in Vancouver we decided to venture outside Downtown and walked to Kitsilano. Initially we were going to check out the trendy main street and the "beaches" but due to the grey skies we took our exploring inside, safe from the rain. We walked into the H R McMillian Space Museum which had what looked like a giant crab out the front. Not sure what that is all about..

Anyway, once we passed the crab we made our way into the museum. The lights on the ceiling and lining the walls were great and made you feel like you were walking amongst the stars. The opening tunnel led into a round room with lots of information about the first Canadian on the moon. There was even a fake astronaut suit that you could take pictures inside of. Brendan kindly demonstrated that below. The room was full of interactive exhibits which ranged from holding a piece of an asteroid to using instruments that they use in space. It was also full of interesting facts including that on the moon you weigh a third of what you do on Earth. Therefore going forward I'm only going to give my weight in moon standards.

After exploring the inside of the interactive space level we caught a huge freight lift up to the top floor to see a show in their theatre. As we walked out of the lift we were met with a beautiful panoramic view of the mountains and Vancouver. It really was a stunning sight. After we got over the awe of the view we walked into a dome shaped theatre to watch a video about the solar system. It is very similar to the Omni theatre in Perth but set out differently inside. All the chairs are on one level and you lean back to view the screen. The show itself was very entertaining as we were led across the solar system and learnt a lot about each different planet. We would highly recommend a visit as its quite cheap and super interesting or maybe that's just our nerdy accountant side coming out. YAY maths and science!
