Yee-Haw!!!! Off to Calgary

When we were booking our tickets to Calgary we needed to have checked baggage and most of the flights offered only had carry on and you then had to pay for checked bags at the airport. We wanted to avoid this hassle and so eventually found a flight via Air Transat which was cheaper than all the others and also included checked bags. When we checked in we got priority check in which was great except the girl behind the counter was useless when we asked her questions. We then walked up to the regular lounge to wait for boarding. When boarding commenced we realised we had priority boarding and decided we would get on the plane early because we had never had priority boarding before. Once we stepped on the plane and were directed to our seats we realised that we had accidentally upgraded ourselves to business class.

The seats in business class were at least twice as big as the regular economy seats and we were served wine, beer or soft drink as well as a selection of cheeses and fruit as well as hot towels to clean ourselves up with. Luckily for us our flight was delayed for an hour on the tarmac to wait for another plane to arrive so we had an extra hour to enjoy the business class luxury.

Once we arrived in Calgary we proceed to our Airbnb which would be our home for the next two months. Known as the Goose house it even has a fake goose in the front yard to let everyone know that they are in the right place. After getting our bearings we decided the next day to explore the city and figure out where the important landmarks and areas were. Whilst exploring the city, we found the Core Shopping centre which is a four level shopping complex with a garden on the top level. We also walked past and took photos of the Bow, the largest building in Calgary as well as exploring Stephen Avenue which is the main street in downtown Calgary.

A few days later we decided to go up the Calgary tower. Built in 1967 the Calgary Tower used to be the largest building in Calgary however due to the recent Oil & Gas boom in Calgary, there are now many taller office towers. The tour of the tower includes an audio option at no extra charge which was incredibly valuable as it pointed out all the key landmarks around the tower and went into the history of each landmark. The tower also has a glass viewing platform where you can look down and see the city below you. Jess was not as much of a fan of this as she was of other parts of the tower.
