Most of our time exploring Vancouver had just been Brendan and I on our own. We had walked a lot when we first moved over in October 2017 but not since then. It was fortunate then that two of our wonderful friends decided to take us out to show us Kitsilano beach and the surrounding area. It was all planned as a way for our Canadian friends to show us that Canada can in fact do a good brunch because up to this point, brunch had been lacklustre at best.
The wonderful Delta and Heba took us to a cosy little brunch spot right in the heart of Kits called Sophie's Cosmic Café which was styled with hot pink seats and cute figurines on the walls. The food was wonderful and the server that we had was so excited to serve us it was a little scary. The portions were huge and we were really happy to have gotten a great brunch with great friends.
So much food meant we all decided a good walk was in order so we didn't roll around for the rest of the weekend with our full stomachs. Being in the heart of Kits we decided to go and check out the beach. Brendan and I had been very sceptical to visit the beach as the Canadians are proud of their beaches but what we have seen from afar looked like a pile of dirt and some water... Not at all what we could consider a beach. It was also not yet in the twenties for temperature and the Vancouverites were flocking to the beach. Again you would never find a West Aussie at the beach at that temperature, or at least not planning to swim. With all this in mind and that some thunder clouds were rolling in we decided that we would give it a visit.
We are so glad we did. While the beach wouldn't even be used as a back up swimming hole in Australia, the clouds coming in over the mountains and the dark sand with large logs to sit on made the beach look beautiful. It also had a playground near by which we decided to climb all over and embrace our inner child before the rains hit. At the last few minutes before the rain rolled in we took some silly photos and we think the photo below would make and amazing band cover photo. What do you think?
